"I had all of our neighbors come over to see our rain garden. I told them how inexpensive it was because we received $2,200 from the Bay Alliance [as an incentive package]. It was a no brainer. It only cost us $700".

#faqs

Frequently Asked Questions

Have a Question? We are here to help

Who is eligible for the rebate in Southern California?

Most residents serviced by agencies like the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) or local water districts (e.g., LADWP, Irvine Ranch, San Diego Water Authority) are eligible. Eligibility may vary by zip code and utility provider.

Rainplan helps you understand if you qualify.

How much money can I get for removing my lawn?

Rebates typically range from $2 to $5 per square foot, depending on if you are residential or commerical. The program also offers $100 per tree planted (upwards of 5 trees).

Rainplan estimates your rebate amount automatically during your project planning.

Do I need approval before I remove my turf?

Yes. Most programs require pre-approval before any work begins, including photos of your current lawn and a project plan.

Rainplan walks you through this approval process and helps submit the paperwork.

What does a turf replacement project usually involve?

Turf replacement often includes:

  • Removing existing grass

  • Installing drip irrigation

  • Adding native/drought-tolerant plants

  • Using mulch or decorative gravel

Rainplan connects you with verified contractors who handle everything — from design to install — and meet rebate requirements.

What if I don’t have money upfront for the project?

That’s where Rainplan’s Project Assurance helps. We can pay the contractor upfront, so you don't have to — and you pay once the project is underway and rebate-eligible.

How does Rainplan get paid?

Rainplan gets paid a small fee percentage for services based on project scope. Payment is over time and negotiated at project start.
